SIR GEORGE ALLEYNE, CHANCELLOR, 2003-PRESENT

Sir George (a.k.a. Champ),
an academian, researcher and international public servant was born in Barbados. He entered the Medical School of the UWI in 1950 when it was merely two years old, although with an experienced and illustrious academic staff and excellent mediacal programme of the University of London. He Excelled. He earned the MB, BS degree with Honours and was the Best Clinical student of his year. He also, on graduation, won the Allenbury prize for Clinical Medicine and the University Silver Medal for Medicine. In 1965, he earned he Doctor of Medicine from the University of London; in 1973, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London), and two years later, an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
