MODERN JAMAICAN ART by David Boxer & Veerie Poupeye

MODERN JAMAICAN ART, produced by the UWI Development & Endowment Fund through Ian Randle Publishers, offers a superb overview of the works of 82 Jamaican painters and sculptors. The 206-page book carries 134 full-page colour plates and two brilliant essays by art scholars David Boxer and Veerie Poupeye, as well as biographical information on each artist. The talent of well-known artists - Manley, Dunkley, Huie, Kapo, Hyde, Parboosingh, Barrington Watson, Milton George and Everald Brown is proudly displayed as well as the works of younger artists such as Dawn Scott, Laura Facey, Margaret Chen, Leonard Daley and Nari Ward.

This hardcover 10 in. x 11 in. book provides a top quality representation of the dynamic and varied art movement in Jamaica.

"The rich and diverse products of the Jamaican creative imagination remain points of power in the expression of self and the celebration of cultural certitude, placing our artists among the true voices which tell us 'what we are and what we were, what we have forgotten and what we can be.' Modern Jamaican Art affirms this and thankfully reassures."
Professor The Hon. Rex Nettleford, O.M.
Vice Chancellor – UWI

Artwork: Watching Over Me by Kapo (top), Girl Surprised by David Miller Jr. (bottom left) and Horse of the Morning by Edna Manley (bottom right)

"… a magnificent celebration of Jamaica's vibrant art portrayed herewith as proof of the unique creativity of our artists and the cultural development of our country …"
Hon. Maurice W. Facey, O.J., J.P.
